UMS KING AUNG ZEYA is a 108 meters Frigate built by Myanmar Naval Dockyard Headquarter in year 2005. She was commissioned on 24th December, 2010.Thus, she entered into the active services of Myanmar Navy. She is the Flag ship of 1st Fleet and Myanmar Navy as well. The ship will be ultilized for the following function; (1) Long and medium range patrol for surveillance and surface combat operation. (2) Patrolling and guarding maritime borders and surveillance of the exclusive economic zone. (3) Protection of shipping (POS) mission by carrying out anti-submarine warfare, anti-air warfare and anti-surface warfare roles. (4) Support for amphibious expeditionary force. (5) Conduct independent operation such as counter drug surveillance, maritime interception operation and bilateral or multilateral exercises. (6) Assist distress call at sea.

Commander Khun Aung Kyaw (Commanding Officer) Commander Khun Aung Kyaw graduated from Defence Services Academy, Pyin Oo Lwin, was commissioned into the Myanmar Navy on 5th April 1996. His sea tours included services in Myanmar Navy as Gunnery Officer and Commanding Officer in UMS INYA and UMS King Aung Zeya. Also Staff Officer and Head of Department of Naval Weapon and Weapon System in Naval Training Command. He has specialized in Gunnery. He is married to Daw Ni Ni Zin. He is fond of reading and walking. After that he attended Computer Courses in Diploma and Master Degree at University of Computer Science.
